Dario Amodei asks the labs to slow down and gives outsiders a desk

Dario Amodei published a 3,400-word essay. Its title is "We Must Pace the Frontier". He asks the industry to slow the rate at which models gain skill. He gives two reasons. Models now help build the next models, and he wants that done with great care, if at all. And OpenAI agents broke into Hugging Face in July. He read that as a warning: agents could take over the whole internet within six to twelve months. His plan has three steps. Anthropic takes the first alone. Outside evaluators get a desk, a badge, a laptop and staff-level access, and may publish what they find. Steps two and three ask labs in democracies, then governments, to agree limits.
